The Kid Defeats USA in OT Thriller

1/03/2010

USA 2 - 3 CANADA

Canada couldn’t have planned it any better. The best level of competition in the sport hockey goes out with a giant bang, and who better to end it than the Canadian phenom Sidney Crosby. USA fans on the other hand, couldn’t have picked a more heart breaking way to end their gold medal hopes.

USA goaltender Ryan Miller was awarded the tournament’s MVP award for his amazing performance. The only thing it was missing from being perfect was the exclamation point of a gold medal.

The high fueled Gold Medal rematch of the 2002 Salt Lake City Final, featured many USA highlights, including New Jersey Devil’s Forward Zach Parise, who lit up the tournament with 8 points – 4 goals and 4 assists. One goal in particular, will be remembered in USA Olympic history – with an empty net and 24.5 seconds left on the clock in this gold medal matchup, Zach Parise netted what seemed as though – the goal that silenced an entire country.

Then, in overtime, the Canadian phenom, who has been quiet throughout the tournament, netted the winner and etched his name on the desk of Canadian history.

Other USA tournament highlights include New York Rangers Ryan Callahan and Chris Drury’s selfless play throughout every game, getting down and blocking shot after shot from some of the hardest shooting hockey sticks in the world. The 3-time Olympian Chris Drury was rewarded for his hard work with 2 goals in the 2010 Olympic Tournament.

Kovalchuk is the New Situation

5/02/2010

The Jersey shore just got a new situation – but Devils fans aren’t looking for a situation, they’re looking for a “Solution”.

New Jersey Devils land former Thrashers star Ilya Kovachuk.

Kovalchuk, 26, has gone five seasons in a row with at least 40 goals and, with 31 through 49 games this season, is on pace for a sixth consecutive season in that rare offensive air.

Without question, Ilya Kovalchuk is a dynamic offensive player, one that will add a completely new dimension to the New Jersey Devils and lift the production of teammates in the process.

Kovalchuk arrives in New Jersey with defenseman Anssi Salmela, while rookie forward Niclas Bergfors, defenseman Johnny Oduya and junior prospect Patrice Cormier were sent to the Thrashers along with a first round draft pick.

Letter to Brett Favre

1/09/2009

If you didn’t see it for yourself on ESPN, take a look at this filthy little crackback block that Brett Favre threw at the knees of Texans safety Eugene Wilson in the third quarter of the Monday Night preseason game.

Dear Brett,

Maybe this’ll provide you with a few clues as to when to throw in the towel and accept a great career while your ahead. Do you really want people to remember you for this sort of foul play – not to mention Brett, you don’t get that they are just throwing you on the field because of your name, not because of your talent/skill level? For God sakes, if you had any QB skill left, you wouldn’t even be making tackles – you’d be throwing balls for the Vikings.

Sincerely,

Mike Fortuna

luis castillo’s deal with the devil

27/08/2009

funny excerpt from Dominic Pinto of Pessimets.com, great stuff!

Satan: So Luis, what can I do for you?

Luis: As you know I’m coming off a horrible injury filled season. I’m making a lot of money and am playing like crap. I’ll do anything to have a good injury free year this season. I really need to live up to this contract.

Satan: Ahh, anything you say? I always love to hear those words. Ok your wish is my command. But what would you be willing to give up in order to have that injury free, great year of baseball? What if every major player on your team has to go on the D.L.? What if I give you that injury free year of great baseball but your team will be far from playoff contention by the end of July and every Met fan will hate themselves?

Luis: Oh I don’t know, can’t you keep everyone healthy including me?

Satan: No Luis. It’s either you or everyone good on the team.

Luis: Ok fine, just do what you have to do. But don’t make me look too good. I don’t want to be constantly tested for P.E.D.’s and stand out too much.

Satan: Sure, you won’t be all-star but you’ll have a great year. I’ll even make you have an embarrassing game losing error along the way. Or I’ll have you slip and fall so you’ll be out a couple days but not on the D.L. No one will be the wiser of deal. It’ll be our little secret. Fair enough?

Luis: Thanks, Satan, you’re the best! Besides, I still owe you from when you made Omar give me that ridiculous contract (laughing).

Cubs Fan Tosses Beer Cup at Phillies’ Victorino

13/08/2009

Still at Large

Still at Large

August 14, 2009 – Shane Victorino came into Wednesday’s game batting .309 – with 8 Homeruns and 50 RBIs – during which he stacked on a HR and 2 RBI’s. The only thing not on his 2009 resume was getting a beer thrown at him by a Chicago fan.

The culprit, shown to the right, threw an entire beer cup right at Victorino in Center field while Victorino was going back to the wall for a fly ball. Shane made the catch anyway, while the fan was throught to be escorted out of the park. Chicago security escorted a man thought to be the beer chucker – however the actual culprit (seen in the image) slipped out during the misunderstanding.

Shane Victorino announced he was pressing charges after the game.

“I think he needs to be held accountable. But for the most part, I just see it as the guy thought it was fun. It is what it is. It didn’t cost me in any way and it didn’t hurt me in any way. It’s part of the ballgame,” he said.

Watch the full incident below.

Apparently MLB removed the video from youtube – here is the video link directly at MLB.com

PS: Heads up to the Cubs outfielders next time they’re in Philly – you have to expect some sort of retaliation effort.

Basketball – A Crying Man’s Sport?

29/07/2009

July 29, 2009

If you haddn’t already heard wonderful news about Allen Iverson – earlier this month, well, you should now. The NBA’s nail-tough point guard shed some tears earlier this month at his very own Allen Iverson Student Athletic Scholarship Program. He shed some tears as he projected about the program and about his own critisism surrounding his 13-year long career in the NBA.

This isn’t even the beginning….Congrats to AI for having the more normal news of this blog post today…

Yesterday, in a Tweet, the newest member of the Lebron’s Cav’s, and the big man we all know and love, Shaq, mentioned the following – “Starbury crying? What’s going on!? I know that aint vaseline he’s eating!! EW!”

Well, in reading this, of course I immediately thought – I have to know what the hell Shaq is talking about – which is usually the case in any Tweet. <3 Shaq

Well, you guessed it not only did he make a 24 hour live webcast of himself answering questions from fans (must’ve made his promoters and sponsors REAL happy, if he has any left after the NY Knicks drama) but he also decided it’d be a great idea to eat some vaseline on camera for the entire world to see. WHAT!? Yeah, believe it -
